What is Umbanda?

Umbanda is a syncretic religion that originated in Brazil in the early 20th century. It combines elements of African, indigenous, and Catholic beliefs and practices. In Umbanda, practitioners may seek guidance, healing, and communication with spirits through mediumship, rituals, and other spiritual practices. Practitioners are encouraged to strive for spiritual growth and self-improvement.

What happens at our works?

Several times a year we organize events with Umbanda in the form of transpersonal cycles with:

  • Brazilian traditions
  • dance
  • meditation
  • artistic expressions
  • and walks in nature

Especially practises in contact with Nature are an important part of our meetings.

When you join our works, you are invited to experience rituals of passage, to connect with your personal studies and journeys – and illuminate aspects of your life that call to be transmuted or redirected.

So if you decide to participate in one of our works, be prepared to

  • connect with your body on a deeper level
  • receive herbal treatments
  • commune with nature
  • experience your own musicality
  • sing (a lot) in Portuguese
  • celebrate the magnificence of (your) life

What is a Gira?

A Gira is a religious ritual in the Afro-Brazilian tradition of Umbanda.

The literal translation of Gira is “to spin”.

The ceremony involves singing, drumming, and dancing, and is a vibrant expression and connection to the spiritual world, especially with the Orixás, which are deities of the tradition. The Giras are without exception highly dynamic and musical. Please be aware of their intensity, especially if you are planning on joining us for the first time.
